What Price Peace in our Time?

Published by scotton under Uncategorized

As discussions over the options available to the United States in preventing Iran’s acquisition of nuclear weapons occur, almost all commentators opine that a strong blockade of vital supplies (the principal being gasoline) would be treated by Iran as an act of war, as it traditionally has been.

These same commentators regularly refer to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a madman, yet never extend that psychoanalytical assessment to the underlying genesis of their summary judgment—his subscription to Mahdiism (see Iran’s President and the Politics of the Twelfth Imam – http://www.ashbrook.org/publicat/guest/05/vonheyking/twelfthimam.html).

It seems to me that the alternatives are to engage Iran in a shooting war without their having the benefit of a nuclear arsenal or to wait until they do have that option, with the full expectation that they are prepared to use it, indeed may look forward to the opportunity. The specter of United States naval vessels being fried by a nuclear blast makes Exocet missiles and bomb-laden speedboats pale in comparison.

Larsen Votes to Continue Funding to Acorn

Published by Cindy under Uncategorized

Fresh back from evading the citizens of San Juan County, Rep. Larsen voted with a vast minority to continue to back ACORN after the scandal hit the air of ACORN employees counseling a man and his friend on how to evade taxes and set up a system to house foreign young girls in prostitution.

Congress voted 345-75 (HR 3221)to discontinue funding to ACORN after ACORN fired some employees for the illegal activity after it was exposed. Larsen voted with the minority to not allow the bill to pass.

ACORN should have a federal investigation for the misuse of federal funds for that and other illegal activity. Why Larsen should vote to continue funding this corrupt group is a mystery.

This happened in the first week after the Congressional August break. During the break, Larsen held a Veteran’s forum in Friday Harbor, at which time he forbade anyone to discuss anything else, with threats of having the commander of the Legion throw them out. When he was asked when he would come back to hear the rest of the citizens, he responded with a vague “Maybe around Labor Day.”

That never happened. After the Everett event, where he did answer questions from people in the Everett area about medical care, he never had another forum. He ran quietly back to DC to be near those who thought more like him, supporting them with his vote for their funding.

If you think funding ACORN is a good investment of your tax dollars, continue to vote for Larsen next year when his term is up. Or, if you think ACORN and other beneficiaries (such as corporations overseas, GM union members etc.,etc.etc.), are NOT appropriate recipients of your tax dollars, then VOTE LARSEN OUT.

Millions March at Tea Party in DC

Published by Cindy under Uncategorized

DC Tea Party 9-12-09

The turnout at the local Salmon BBQ was just a small portion of what happened nation wide. On September 12, ABC estimated about 2 million people turned out at the Tea Party in DC wondering if Obama “could here us now?” If you haven’t looked at photos of that yet, check out this link:

Over 160 Tea Party at the San Juan Island Salmon BBQ

Published by Cindy under Uncategorized

August had a lot of action in the Republican Party. On the 22nd, over 160 people gathered to eat salmon and to listen to various speakers on the state of the state and nation.

Herb Meyer spoke on the revolution, or change of the system of government, that is currently going on in our country. Though our Constitution is still in place, it is ignored, “interpreted,” and circumvented by the current Congress and President. This is a revolution, and what is needed is a counter-revolution to kick them out and re-inforce the government “of the people, by the people, and for the people.”Herb Meyer close

Several candidates also spoke, including Sean Salazar, candidate for the US Senate. Patty Murray’s position will be up for election, and with the manner in which she and this Congress have voted, it is time to have someone new in that position. Patty Murray has voted to give the AIG bailouts that went to banks overseas, she has voted to take over GM, she has voted billions to corrupt Wall Street failures, she voted for the excessive stimulus package that is a failure, she voted for Sotomeyer for judge, the same person who threw out the NY firefighters’ case that was overturned by the Supreme Court. Sotomeyer was so blatantly prejudiced against the white firefighters, who did not get a well-deserved promotion simply because they were white, that someone as bigoted as her should not be in a unbiased position of judge at all, much less a Supreme Court justice for life.

Murray has not represented any but the most leftist of people, and does not seem to know how America was set up. It was refreshing to hear someone who knows American foundations speak at the BBQ.

Joining Sean Salazar was Mike Newman, running for our State Representative position in Olympia. Rumor has it that both of our 40th Legislative seats in the State House will be open. Mike Newman cannot believe that our state legislature did nothing other than shifting money around to deal with the budget. Much more needs to be done or our state will be in the same trouble as California, where public employees are getting promisary notes for pay checks.

Adding to the deficit, our current state senator, Kevin Ranker brags on his site that the state motor pool now must have minimum mpg and emmissions (read lots of new vehicles), paying a tugboat to sit at the dock waiting for an oil spill (couldn’t they just rent one if a spill ever occurs?) and redefining basic education. I am not sure what the last one means, but I am hoping that the kids learn to read and write and do math so they can figure out how to addresses issues as they arise. Ranker also voted to pass HB SB5688, which gives many new benefits to “partners” of homosexuals, at a time when the budget way over projected revenues. Unfortunately, we cannot vote Ranker out this coming year, but we can support Mike Newman for some realistic financial common sense.

Dick Rich had a wonderful band at the BBQ, and the music and food was wonderful.

McCain Pain?

Published by scotton under Uncategorized

Glenn Beck has stirred the pot with his statement that John McCain would have been even worse for America, had he been elected, than how bad it is, having elected Barack Obama.

In thinking about this hypothesis, I am taken back to a conversation I had one evening early last year after dinner with the estimable Herb Meyer. Herb employed Socratic dialog to evince from me the answer as to who, among those vying for the Republican nomination, could best perform their duties in the existential fight for Western Civilization (see The Siege of Western Civilization) versus Islamic Fascism. We instantly agreed on the person—Senator John McCain. I have seen and heard nothing that would change that assessment, but that’s only half the story. Herb’s thesis is that the enemy within (radical secular humanism) is as much a threat to Western Civilization as is the Mohammedan external threat. On that front, I must agree with Mister Beck. Senator McCain would have, by the evidence of his record, would have been the next notch up on the burner of this multi-generational frog boil that finds us where we are in American culture today. Beck’s theatrical fake frog boiling on his show last night made a valid point that President Obama’s extremes have produced a valuable wakeup to the conservative mainstream of America. That would have never happened with a President McCain, even though Speaker Pelosi and Leader Reid would still have had the exact same majorities in both chambers, with the same radical committee chairmen, leading to much of the same legislative agenda, but without the specter of a radical Democrat President to galvanize wavering Republicans.

It can be argued that the same results will come about in either case, but that just says that McCain would have been no worse, which sounds like damning with faint praise.
