State Senate Race - Van Luven / Ranker

On November 4, 2008, we in the 40th Legislative District will decide who will be our next State Senator.

Candidates for the open seat, which spans San Juan, Skagit and Whatcom counties, include former 48th district State Representative Steve Van Luven and current San Juan County Councilman Kevin Ranker.

As home county of Councilman Kevin Ranker we, the San Juan County Republican Party, feel obligated to to inform our fellow voters as to the Councilman’s background and record. First however, let us encourage you to review Steve Van Luven’s credentials some of which are stated below.     * Steve served for 17+ years in the state House of Representatives, for the 48th District.
    * Served seven years as Chairman of the House International Trade & Economic Development Committee.
    * Past Chairman of the House Ethics Committee.
    * Member of Governors Task Force on International Trade Agreements.
    * Republican Chair, Higher Education Committee.
    * Leading role in Economic Development legislation for projects totaling well over $1 billion, creating thousands of jobs for R & D, hi-tech, biotech and the manufacturing industries, bringing to Washington the largest private investment project in state history.
    * Sponsored legislation to benefit the film, video and movie industry creating additional job opportunities.
    * Led the fight to secure additional funding for higher education.
    * Proven record of support for the agriculture community, and the marine industry.
