WSRP Statement on Gun Appreciation Day, January 19, 2013
State Republican Chairman Kirby Wilbur issued the following statement regarding Gun Appreciation Day:
“ I want to encourage citizens of the State of Washington to participate in Gun Appreciation Day, this Saturday, January 19.
“ The right to keep and bear arms is a right protected by both our state and federal constitutions.
“It is currently under attack by a number of politicians seeking to do something in response to the horrible and evil acts in Aurora Colorado, Newtown Connecticut and others. Unfortunately, most of what is being recommended would do nothing to prevent such acts in the future, and do much to impair and infringe on the rights and activities of the millions of law-abiding and responsible gun owners in our state and nation.
“ Gun Appreciation Day is an opportunity for those Americans to stand up in support of their Constitutionally-protected rights. There are a number of activities I would recommend, including the following:
1.) Attend the rally in Olympia at 12:00 noon on Saturday.
2.) Join the Washington Arms Collectors, Second Amendment Foundation, Citizens Committee for the Right To Keep and bear Arms, and/or the National Rifle Association.
3.) Take a gun education course.
4.) Read the Second Amendment and Article 1, Section 24 of the Washington State Constitution. Urge your friends, family and your legislators to do so as well.
5.) Contact your legislators about this issue.
6.) Attend the Washington Arms Collectors show in Puyallup this weekend. Take the opportunity to learn about gun shows
.This Saturday is a great opportunity to defend our rights and educate ourselves and our friends and family on this issue and bring some light to bear on what is a very serious subject. It is also a chance to stand up to the politicians pedaling false solutions and playing on people’s fears.”
