Scientists produce monoclonal antibody in tobacco plants that neutralizes rabies viruses

 Smoking tobacco might be bad for your health, but a genetically altered version of the plant might provide a relatively inexpensive cure for the deadly rabies virus. In a new research report appearing in The FASEB Journal, scientists produced a monoclonalantibody in transgenic tobacco plants that was shown to neutralize the rabies virus. This new antibody works by preventing the virus from attaching to nerve endings around the bite site and keeps the virus from traveling to the brain. Continued

County Council Candidate Forum at the Grange on Tuesday Jan 29th 5:30 PM

 All 6 of the candidates for County Council that are participating in the primary election will be appearing at a Candidates’ Forum on Tuesday, January 29, from 5:30 – 6:15 PM at the Grange Hall in Friday Harbor. The subject to be discussed is the “local economy” and it should be an important event.

Please plan to be there.

 After the forum Greg Ayers, County Council Candidate from Orcas Island will be hosting a reception at the American Legion in the meeting room downstairs. Please join us to welcome Greg to San Juan Island and take this opportunity to learn more about Greg.
