Dear Friends,

The event in Charlottesville called “Unite the Right” was a White Supremacist and neo-Nazi protest march and had nothing to do with the Republican Party. Republicans will never “unite” with these extremists and their views.

I am a co-sponsor of this RNC resolution which denounces these extremist organizations and also explains the historical record of Republicans against racism. Please read it here.

It came to light yesterday, that one participant at the march was the President of College Republicans at WSU. While the Republican Party has no authority over the organization called College Republicans (CR), I promptly contacted their national and state offices with this message:

Swift action is required against James Allsup, the President of CR-WSU who marched in the “Unite the Right” event this weekend. His videos were repulsive and do not represent the values and standards of the Republican Party. I call on you to denounce his actions and affiliations with all white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups. 

Allsup resigned late yesterday. It should be noted that in a news report Sunday, Allsup did not claim to be a Republican but instead a “paleo-conservative” or “right wing libertarian”.

The Democrats and leftists in our state hope to tie this ugly episode to the Republican party, our elected officials and candidates. Instead, we will use their attacks as an opportunity to affirm our Party’s stand against racism and bigotry.

As we enjoy Independence Day with family, friends and fireworks, it’s important to remember that unlike any other country in the world, our premier national holiday doesn’t celebrate a battle, royalty or religion. It celebrates a document!

A few years ago I was invited to speak to the Common Sense Society of Hungary, a newly formed group of college students and graduates who were admirers of America. Their name derived from the famous pamphlet “Common Sense” written in 1776 by patriot Thomas Paine who declared “the cause of America is, in great measure, the cause of all mankind.”

These young Hungarians, living in a newly formed democracy less than 20 years young, were proudly handing out their first pamphlet—a Hungarian translation of the Declaration of Independence! They looked to Jefferson’s immortal words to help them “transition from a post-communist state towards a truly free and prosperous society.”

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  

Our July 4th document shares the “cause of America” which “is in great measure, the cause of all mankind.” Let’s celebrate!

Attacks on Jinyoung Lee Englund (6/30 campaign email)

As I said yesterday, the attacks against me are coming. They are coming fast and they couldn’t be farther from the truth.The opponent recently sent an email bragging about an endorsement from the hyper-partisan DailyKos news blog, quoting them: “It all comes down to one seat: If Democrats can win … [they] gain control of the entire state government, opening the door for all kinds of progressive legislation.”

Wow! I could not have said it more clearly. If the opponent wins, it means a green light to a state income tax, capital gains tax, and more spending and regulation.

I am running to improve the lives of people on the Eastside by focusing on solving real problems. Unlike the opponent, I don’t have an ideological agenda. 

Going door to door, and I’ve personally visited 3,100 to date, people in our district are telling me that this election is about saying NO to an income tax, reducing traffic congestion, correcting the car tab prices, honest leadership and pragmatic governing.

Today is the end of the month, which means we have another fundraising deadline. The primary is right around the corner and we need your help to overcome the negativity with our positive ads over the next 30 days. Help us make this month a strong one by donating online today! It is with your help that we will be the change we all want to see in politics and get our positive message to every single voter in our district.

WSRP on the minimum wage in Seattle

Our on-going alerts, DEMS! (Distinctly Embarrassing Moments forSeattle!), highlight the many ways one-party Democrat rule in Seattle has hurt the reputation of the city and our state. Read on!

Add a disastrous minimum-wage law to the list of what Seattle Democrats are known for nationwide! 

Making network news today, economists at the University of Washington released a study that exposes the truth about Seattle’s landmark $15 an hour minimum-wage increase: it has caused workers to lose money! “With employers cutting back on hours, Seattle workers are losing an average of $1,500 a year.”  

A widely respected MIT labor economist, David Autor, said if he were a Seattle lawmaker, he would be thinking hard about the $15 an hour phase-in.

But who needs the advice of a leading economist when you have the economic advice of rich radical Kshama Sawant? In 2014, the socialist councilwoman demanded immediately increasing the minimum-wage by over $5 an hour! Just think of the disaster she could have caused, since Seattle low-wage earners are already suffering with a phased-in approach.

The $15 an hour minimum-wage has worsened the lives of workers when it was meant to improve them. How embarrassing for Seattle lawmakers!

Cindy Carter on May 2017 State meetings

Greetings!

May 19-20, the WA State Republican Party (WSRP) central committee met. Each county sends a state committeeman, a state committeewoman, and usually a chairman to meet together once a quarter. I typically send Vice-chair Lynda Gerpheide in my place. Following is Statecommiteewoman Cindy Carter’s report:

“I did get a lot of information at the state meeting, and it is so good to be in a large company of Republicans…it always lifts my spirits…

There was a budget report also, it was amazing in that Susan Hutchinson and the WSRP are way above budget for fundraising, and will have funding available to help with the race in the 45th district.  We also were privileged to hear from Jinyoung Lee Englund who is an amazing person, working with campaigns and when not doing that, helping in 3rd world nations to bring clean water to the people.  She is a great candidate for the 45th.

Susan and the WSRP State Committee man and woman, Jeff and Freddie, also were apparently amazing at the National meeting and someone accused them of having Washington taking over the National Committee.

There was a resolution that passed at the state committee meeting asking members of the WSRP to be active in recruiting people to sign the Initiative 1552.  I-1552 is the privacy initiative asking that businesses and schools be allowed to decide how to set up their bathrooms instead of a 5 person un-elected panel making that decision for them.  On a side note, after traveling down and back up the West Coast, I really miss the gender specific bathrooms.  Having to use the unisex bathrooms was, well, disgusting.  The gender specific bathrooms are definitely a bonus.  I do have some initiatives if anyone would like to gather signatures.  Signatures are due by July 1st.
