Bellevue, WA – WSRP Chairman Kirby Wilbur released the following statement regarding the House Democrats’ budget proposal announced today:
“There are no surprises in the proposed budget the Democrats in the state House announced today. $1.3 Billion in new taxes, despite a nearly 7% increase in revenue in the next biennium, imposing a bottled water tax that was overwhelmingly rejected by the voters in 2010, extending ‘temporary’ taxes and exhausting our rainy day fund, all show the Democrats’ addiction to taxes, to other people’s money and their inability to make hard decisions.

“The Governor has talked of doing hard things. Raising taxes is the easy thing to do. The hard thing to do is to say no to tax increases. It is also the right thing to do.
“If the Democrats would take a more business friendly approach, if we put people back to work, there would be a natural increase to state revenue, with more coming in and less going out. The headlines in today’s paper citing the nervousness in Olympia about Boeing investing more money in South Carolina should wake up the Democratic leadership about the need for pro-business, pro-job reforms and policies. More taxpayers, not more taxes.
“Perhaps they should take the twelve-step program at Taxers Anonymous. Their addiction is harmful, mostly to taxpayers and the business community, and needs to be dealt with.”
The Washington State Republican Party released an ad today that highlights Governor Inslee’s broken promises and the proposed tax increases coming from Democrats in the state Legislature.
