Lopez Conservatives Concerned about New Hospital District

posted in: Announcements | 0

Recently a measure to establish a new hospital district on Lopez was put on the ballot for the April Special Election on Lopez:

From the ballot: “The San Juan County Council adopted Resolution No. 9-2017 regarding the formation of a Public Hospital District. If approved, Public Hospital District No. 2 would be established with a boundary of all land within precincts of Lopez North and Lopez South with the purpose of operating health care facilities and providing hospital services and other health care services.

This ballot is due April 25th at 8 pm. Lopez ballot drop box is open. Ballots went out on the 4th.

For full details click here. This link will take you to the voter’s guide online, including a “for” and an “against” position. The Republican Party does not have an official position on this. However, we did what we could to help concerned fiscal conservatives to be aware of each other so that they could craft a statement. In the end, Dan Post wanted to be the only name on the measure to protect other members from retaliation.

(Important: Once you click the link it will open the WA State website that hosts the ballot measure. You then must click on “Proposition Number One” to open it. THEN, you must click the “+” for both the explanatory statement and the arguments for/against. Yes, it’s not intuitive. Yes, it’s a pain. But it’s the State of Washington…)

Local conservative Linda Noreen adds:

“I agree with Dan’s reasons to not vote for this proposition. And I agree with the Argument For when it says “. . . We need our clinic.” However, I want to save the clinic — just the clinic with tax dollars.

At a pro-meeting, chair Christa Campbell indicated that the elected board of Public Hospital District 2 could also give tax dollars to “Lopez Fit, the Pharmacy, and the Family Resource Center”. Yes, they, and many more Lopez medical-related businesses and non-profits, are good causes that should be saved by shopping and/or privately donating there. Carefully read the proposition words that I underlined.

Vote no this time — rewrite the proposition to restrict the spending to just the clinic. Higher property taxes and affordable housing do not go together.”

Barry Cave on Rick Larsen’s Friday Harbor Visit 3/26/2017

Editors Note: Barry Cave is among the friendliest people you will ever meet; cheerful, and colorful. Barry is one of those people who would cheerfully give the shirt off his back to anybody in need no matter their creed. We all know liberals with no sense of humor determined to believe the worst about anything that is said, so I want to point out that the “gun” is not aimed at anyone. I don’t want to see any paranoid letters to the editor in the paper over this.

Representative Rick Larsen recently visited Friday Harbor on 3/26/2017, in this guest article Barry Cave gives us his personal impressions with lively prose — and poetry!

“Woke up this morning with liberty at hand
Obama’s trying to take it away, but Trump’s got a plan.
Put people back to work, stop the violence in our land.
Grow a set of great big ones, It’s with Israel we stand.
Quit giving away all our God givin rights, yes that’s a gun in my hand.
Bring back national pride, now wouldn’t that be really grand.
Thank You Donald Trump, It’s with you that we all stand.”

American Healthcare : Legalized Extortion and Monopoly

I recently attended Rick Larsen’s town hall meeting at brickworks in Friday Harbor.  Walking in the door the first thing noticed were the stack of Resist Stickers and a pamphlet on how to protest, right next to the sigh in sheet. The funny thing is, I was under the impression that I was coming to a meeting about improving healthcare, NOT a Soros sponsored activist meeting. OOPS.

I have never seen so many scowling faces in one place before, smiles in this crowd were almost non-existent. I was looking at a whole herd of sheep waiting for more advice from their wolf leader. The whole group was waiting to hear about what the next free stuff will be.

Rick started his narrative by gloating about their recent victory in battle; Obamacare lite not passing. He moves in to mock and belittle President Donald Trump, stating “the basics of governing are lost on this President”

There were many instances where he pushed the narrative of the Russians hacking the election. I sat intently listening, hoping I would learn something or at least hear something true. Maybe I can understand how all these people rationalize this disaster that’s called Obamacare, but no; the more I hear the more it feels like I just entered a communist party meeting.

There was a Question and Answer session where most people were expressing concerns about losing over one overregulated issue or another, basically begging for more federal handouts on programs which cost taxpayers lots of money but brings in no revenue.

I raised the issue that we should control the cost of drugs, doctors pay, and insurance premiums before we all decide How to pay for all this. “The monopoly that Obamacare is and the cost of healthcare is nothing but legalized extortion,” I said. The crowd clapped and for the most part it appeared that even underneath all the indoctrination that these followers go through they still have a glimmer of common sense.

There was no glimmer of bipartisanship here, rather this was the Party of NO: If a conservative has a plan, “Just say NO.” All they care about is disruption and resistance to any narrative that is not their own.

They are impeding our efforts through deep rooted plants in government left there by our past administrations and mostly Obama himself. Through the deep state leaks and the shadow government we have been left with; we have been reduced to being ruled by leftist progressive liberal judges. These are the exact people that we need to drain from this swamp.

The Swamp is not draining fast enough for me yet!!

Sincerely and most completely,
American Patriot Barry Cave

Orcas 2017 Lincoln Day Dinner Great Success!!

posted in: Events, Lincoln Day Dinner | 0

Orcas Republicans and Conservatives enjoyed a great turnout and speeches given by County Chairman Nathan Butler and Guest Speaker Herb Meyer at the 2017 Lincoln Day Dinner.

Cindy Carter put together a tasty chili dog lunch with the help of many hands. Her double chocolate desserts were very popular.

Rick Boucher MC’d the event and Janis Ghazel blessed us with a fabulous rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner” and later with a stirring “God Bless the USA.”

The highlight if the luncheon was Herb Meyer. Herb’s talk on “The Second Civil War” oriented on the “change” progressives want to work on our society. He spoke to the fact that this nation was uniquely created by God though the Founders to be a Republic in which the common man is in charge of his destiny and tells the government what to do.

Over the last 40 to 60 years progressives have attempted to flipp the order of things.  The so called elite “know” what is best for the common man and thus tell him what to do. The government tells the citizen to sit down, shut up and do what I say. (Pardon my putting words in Herb’s mouth. His points and arguments tend to stir the blood a bit.)

We had a good time of Q and A after the talk.  Fabulous fun for everyone!

There should be an article about the event in the media when the reporter gets things written up.  I will link to that article at that time.

I have the benefit of listening once again this next weekend at Lopez on Friday and then in Friday Harbor on Saturday. See you there!

Our quarterly ezine is being released today!

Greetings Conservatives!

As some of you may know from our Central Committee meetings, one of our goals this term is to publish more original work by conservatives in our county.

For one thing, if you have no idea what the “Central Committee” is, you will find answers. Even long term conservatives often are unsure of what a PCO is, or who the members of the Executive Board are, and any number of similar questions. Many of these questions are answered.

We also have articles on immigration, SJC Hospital District #1, and Community Treasures. There is a mix of news and opinion, local and national issues. This issue had very little about state issues, but we hope to remedy that in the future.

You can find our March 2017 ezine here. It will guide you through each of the articles. PDF copies available below:

Media Links for 3/20/2017

NEW LINKS

I have tried to collect a number of links to local media outlets, found here on our website. There are a shocking number of them, and they vary widely in quality. Corrections and comments welcome (did I miss any?)

There are a number of upcoming county meetingsclick here. Sample: SJC Council (Mar 20, 21) Solid Waste Advisory committee (Mar 23), Building Advisory council mtg (Mar 23), Veterans Advisory board meeting (Mar 31), etc.

Seattle flounders in dealing with its housing crisis with a number of measures that only discourage investment in housing: here and here. (Seattle Times). Locally in SJC we are struggling with this issue, and liberals have proposed vacation rental permit changes.

Tuesday, March 29th Bill Watson is holding a public hearing, including a “comprehensive plan update.” Journal reports.

Jill Meyer wrote a thoughtful letter to the editor, here. She has received some pushback. Those who share her concerns should consider speaking up. I do not mean to target Ms. O’Clair for questioning one of us in a somewhat unkind manner, I only mean to highlight a public issue that is of importance to many who will receive this email. The papers will publish those of us who dare to speak out, but it’s important that we support them. Try to keep it civil (as Meyer did), even if they prove uncivil; target ideas not people — even if they don’t do the same.

Border patrol responds to “sanctuary city” issue in SJC. Sounder reports. The Island Guardian also addressed this issue recently in more detail.

Bill O’Reilly on Governor Jay Inslee: https://wsrp.org/dunderhead-inslee/ (WA State RP)

Grassroots advocacy actually works. Direct constituent advocacy works, reports the Hill. A full study here by the Congressional Management Foundation. I can tell you from personal experience that when people email me, I actually listen. And I don’t get a lot of emails (though keep in mind that it’s often the case that someone else emailed me something that sharply disagrees… so be patient). Local newspapers often receive only a handful of letters, if that.

My personal favorite: environmentalists groups are silent as raw sewage drains into the Puget Sound. The Seattle Times wrote a scathing article here. The Times has run a number of articles about the failure of the treatment plant referenced, but this was by far the most scathing.

Republican WA State Treasurer Duane Davidson received a major award for his office’s financial reporting. (WA Wire)

Tucker had a particularly searing reply to the “Russians made Trump president” conspiracy theory. Fox News reports.
